Fandango, the online and phone movie ticketing service, is sparing moviegoers a battle at the box office or worse, facing a sold-out sign at theaters, by selling tickets for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King three weeks in advance of the December 17 opening on Fandango.com. Tickets will also be available by phone three days in advance by calling Fandango's voice-recognition service at 1-800-FANDANGO.
Fandango president and CEO, Art Levitt, predicts the conclusion to the epic trilogy will be the biggest film of the year and expects record-breaking numbers for advance ticketing. "'When will 'Return of the King' tickets go on sale?' has been one of the top movie-related customer service inquiries for the last six months. Fandango also sold out Trilogy Tuesday showtimes for some theaters within minutes and for all theaters within hours. Now, more than ever, fans will want to take advantage of the opportunity to buy tickets in advance, skip the box office lines and avoid facing a 'sold out' sign at theaters."
Supporting his predictions, Levitt also cited impressive sales for the previous installment in the trilogy, "The Two Towers," when Fandango sold nearly $6 million for the film's five-day opening weekend, representing nearly six percent of the film's total domestic opening weekend box office.
