Noah Wyle, who has played Dr. John Carter since ER launched in 1994, has signed a one-year extension to his deal with the Warner Bros. TV that will take him through the show's 11th season in 2004-05.
He also will make his directorial debut, helming two episodes of the fast-paced medical drama during the 2004-05 season.
Wyle, the only original ER cast member who has been with the show since its premiere, will be absent from the series for a few episodes in the fall to spend time with his family.
